What we did:

  • Facade refurbishment

  • Window and door replacement

  • Concrete repair

  • Brickwork repair

  • Waterproofing

14 CAMPBELL ST, a coastal 1960s four-floor double-brick and reinforced concrete apartment block, perches high on Clovelly hill exposed to the southern winds.

The main work was to update the blonde brick facade with a new, painted render skin. But to do this, MAX Build first had to prepare the substrate to prevent any salt forming on the render. We achieved this with a system of salt retardants and elastomeric paints.

Some concrete spalling was also uncovered, cut out and replaced with repair mortar after cleaning the steel and covering it in a rust-retarding zinc coating.

The residential building needed replacement aluminium windows with upgraded wind and water pressure seals, and a new roof cover detail, which meant removing a pebble layer over a tar membrane, and updating it with a superior double-layer torch-on felt. We also improved safety roof access, adding a new roof stair and mounting blocks for the installation of safety harness eyebolts. To complete works new tiles and storm water drainage were installed.

Across the six-month project MAX Build worked closely with the executive committee, strata manager, and residents to ensure everyone was briefed on the program. We also coincided works with a complete refurbishment of unit 1.

MAX Build handed back to residents a fresh, modernised and weather-sealed block of units in pristine condition
